Latest Windows 11 update fixes broken Task Manager colors and adds OneDrive storage alerts
It's the second Tuesday of December which means that it's time to celebrate the last Patch Tuesday, 2022. Today, Microsoft is releasing the final cumulative updates that it will release on Windows 11, since the available C or D upgrades have been delayed until the Christmas season. Both versions supported by Windows 11 are getting updates which include the initial release as well as Windows 11 version 22H2.
Windows 11 version 22H2 - Build 22621.963
Beginning with those running Windows 11 version 22H2, the update that is rolling out today is identified as KB5021255, and raises the build number to 22621.963. It is possible to get the updated manually by clicking here should you be looking to install it that method.
The main benefit this update resolves an issue where colors are not displayed correctly in the Task Manager, which was a problem that popped up during an optional update, which was released in November at the end of the month. The update also fixes an issue that caused problems with Data Protection Application Programming Interface (DPAPI) encryption which could result in some VPN connections to not function correctly.
The update also includes all the fixes and updates of the update optionally released in November, however they're obligatory this time. It also includes new alerts for storage that are specific to OneDrive cloud storage that will be available on the Settings app in addition to the ability to view the entirety available OneDrive storage across all of your subscriptions.
Microsoft has also integrated Windows Spotlight with the general themes settings on the Personalization page of the Settings application. This means that you can select to use the Windows Spotlight theme to get changing desktop backgrounds every day, without having to enter the settings for background (though there's still this option). There's more to this optional update for November that includes the ability to support messages for organization.
Windows 11 (initial release) - build 22000.1335
Those who are on the initial version of Windows 11 are getting an update that is tagged KB5019157 that brings the build number to 22000.1335. It is possible to get the updated by hand by clicking here.
This update doesn't contain all that much but it does come with the same solution for the DPAPI encryption issue discussed above, and so will address the VPN connections issues that you may be experiencing.
Other than that, all updates are part of the optional update, which was released in mid-November. It includes an upgraded Quick Assist application that assists other users remotely, with additional fixes and enhancements that include a fix to an issue in which Microsoft Store Microsoft Store may constantly fail to install updates. You can read the complete update log below.
